Dog-Gone-Good Shooting Bags Review

Dog-Gone-Good Shooting Bags

Dog-Gone-Good Shooting Bags Don and Arline Scott of Gladstone, Oregon make one of the best shooting bag rests on the market. I have used one of their medium sized bags for many years and I will never go back to the old tripod rest. The bags are made with premium quality leather and Cordura nylon and are guaranteed for life. The design of the bench bag is rock steady and grips the rifle forend like a soft vice for stability and accuracy. They are heavy enough for steady support, yet light enough for easy transport and setup.   Your expensive custom rifle stock is cradled in a suede glove, with no metal or screws that could scratch or mar the finish of your prize gun.

Use it anywhere–at the range, from the deer stand, or even on the hood of your new truck. The H-shaped construction clamps onto the forend of your rifle when you press it down into the top of the bag and hangs on to help absorb recoil of hard kicking rifles. They come in several colors (black, brown. green, or camo colors) to look good at the range or blend in when afield, and are available in three different sizes. There is also a series of support bags to steady the butt of the rifle.  You can see the complete line of “dog-gone-good”  bags at www.dog-gone-good.com . We do all our rifle reviews and accuracy testing with “dog-gone-good”  bags.

Don fills these bags with a material that is heavy enough for steady support, yet light enough for easy transport and setup. They also have a shoulder carry strap to help too. I highly recommend the “dog-gone-good” shooting bag for the range or hunting. They can’t be beat for varmint hunting used with Varmint Master’s BRpivot bench, or when shooting form the hood of a truck.

Like Don says, this shooting rest is “steady as a rock and as gentle as your mother’s hands.”

Product Information from the Dog-gone-good website.

Dog-gone-good shooting bags are continuously being improved and upgraded to make sure our valued customers are getting the best possible product on the market.  They speak for themselves.  Our shooting bags and window mounts are made with 1000 denier Cordura, Ballistic nylon, Bull Denim and upholstery leather.  All seams are DOUBLE stitched.  Currently our shooting products are being made in four colors, Black, Tan, Forest Green and a Timber camo pattern.  The leather is black.

Large Bag

In July of 1998, our shooting products underwent all new designs.  There is no question that dog-gone-good exceeds the quality in workmanship and materials of all other shooting products on the market.  This design is superior in many ways as several other companies are trying to copy it now.  The shooting bag design is stronger, more rigid, sits higher and accommodates rifles with forearm stocks up to 2 1/2″ and can be ordered for larger firearms.  The barrel of a rifle in our shooting bags is 8″ off the bench. The large shooting bag is 16″ long and weighs about 23 pounds filled with polypropylene re-grind.  An added benefit of the large bag is that it will take almost all the recoil out of a heavy recoiling rifle when a piece of non-skid rubber shelf liner is put between the rifle and the leather where the rifle is cradled and the bottom legs of the bag are spread.  If a piece of non-skid rubber is placed under the bag, the rifle you can hardly pull the rifle from the bag or the bag off the bench.  This shooting bag can be used for hunting, but is primarily intended for range work. The price is $95.00 empty or $100.00 filled with polypropylene regrind(plastic chips).

ADDED BENEFIT WITH THE LARGE SHOOTING BAG IS THAT IT WILL TAKE ALMOST ALL OF THE RECOIL OUT OF A HEAVY RECOILING RIFLE WHEN A PIECE OF NON-SKID RUBBER SHELF LINER MATERIAL IS PUT UNDER THE SPREAD LEGS OF THE BAG AND IN THE TOP WHERE THE RIFLE IS CRADLED!!!!

Medium Bag

The medium shooting bag is 12″ long and with the rifle mounted in the shooting position, the barrel is  about 8″ above the bench.  This a new product (Nov. 2000) that our customers have requested.  It is an excellent choice for hunting or general range work.  The medium bag weighs about  14 pounds filled with polypropylene re-grind.  The price is $95.00 empty or $100.00 filled with polypropylene regrind.

Small Bag

The small shooting bag is 8″ long and with the rifle mounted in the shooting position, the barrel is  about 8″ above the bench.    The small bag weighs about  10 pounds filled with polypropylene re-grind  This bag was designed for single shot pistols such as the Contender as long as the muzzle of the pistol is away from the bag.  This bag works equally well with any rifle, especially the AR15 and 10-22″s.   This bag works equally as well with a rifle,  especially for AR-I5’s and 10-22’s.  The price is $95.00 empty or $100.00 filled with polypropylene.

Window Mounts

The large window mount is 14″ long and saddles over the window of a vehicle or enclosed hunting stand. We fill the window mounts with polypropylene or the shooter can fill their own with polyester fiber fill that can be found at any fabric store  (A cotton like material that is used to stuff teddy bears). The window mount has a leather top on which the rifle rests.  The small window mount is 7″ long and saddles over the window the same way as the large.  It can also be used turned upside down on a bench and is a great rabbit ears or butt bag. The price is $60.00 empty or $65.00 filled.  REMEMBER to check local hunting regulations concerning shooting from vehicle!

Pillow, Wedge, Field bags

The pillow bag is 9″x7″x3″ with leather on top.  It was designed to rest the Contender pistol on while in combination with the small shooting bag.   Filled with polypropylene, it weighs about 3 pounds.   The wedge bag is 10″x8″x4 1/2″ high at one end and to nothing on the other end.  There is leather on one side of the bag that can be turned down to resist moving on a slick bench.  Filled with polypropylene, it weighs about 6 pounds.  These bags are  priced at $37.50 filled, or $35.00 empty.  The Darrell Holland Field Bag is a three position rear bag used as a rear bag for shooting with a bi-pod or shooting bag. It will lay on it’s side for a 2″ lift, on edge for 3″ lift or on end for a 4″ lift.   Special order additional.

Bag Filler

Bags can be shipped empty, or filled at the factory for a small fee. Filled bags also require an extra $5 packaging fee.  The bags can be filled with polypropylene regrind which can be found where plastic is recycled (check yellow pages under lastic).  Large bags will weigh about 22 lbs., medium bags about 13 lbs, small bags will weigh about 10 lbs.  Ground walnut tumbling media will weigh about the same as polypropylene.  Sand will weigh 60 lbs. in the large bag and about 45 lbs. in the medium, and the small bag will weigh about 30 lbs.  For a light weight filling Buckwheat hulls can be obtained at a feed store and the large bag will weigh 6 lbs., and the small bag will weigh less than 3 lbs.
