Coyote Hunting – Tikka .223

tikka T3 223

Coyote Hunting Rifle – Tikka T3X Upgrades for Thermal Hunting. You need more than a coyote call for coyote hunting, you need a rifle that can make the shot – day or night. What I needed for my Tikka TX3 in 223 Remington to be a great nighttime coyote hunting rifle was the ability to use it with my Pulsar XQ50 Thermal Weapons scope.

Using the components listed below and the help of Doug Graham and Steve Smith of Grizzly Guns, I was able to get a versatile coyote hunting rifle for day or night hunting. This video includes information about the RG Bravo Chassis for the Tikka T3X, KRG ARCA rail for the Bravo Chassis, EGW Tikka Picatinny Rail Scope Mount, MDT POLYMER MAGAZINES AICS, Grizzly Guns Gunsmithing Jefferson, GA.

I can now use my Leupold VX2 4×12 rifle scope for daytime hunting and my Pulsar XP50 or XQ50 Thermal scopes for night hunting. I will also be using the American Defense quick detachable mount from Outdoor Legacy Gear for the Pulsar Thermion and Leupold QD mounts for the Leupold VX2 rifle scope.

Coyote Hunting – Tikka .223 Upgrades – Thermal

Bravo Chassis: The Bravo provides you with the essential chassis benefits combined with conventional target/varmint ergonomics all at a modest price. If you’re looking for your perfect balance in Remington 700 Chassis, Bravo is exactly what you need.

The Bravo is one of the most comfortable stocks available but that’s just the beginning. The price will make you and your wallet overjoyed.

The precisely machined bedding area will put your action in its happy place nearly like it was custom bedded in there. The full-length stiff aluminum backbone will not allow the forend to flex on you but does allow design modularity with loads of accessories and even other KRG chassis.

The ergonomic adjustments are just what you need to fit your frame so you can pull off the difficult shots. Of course, it takes AICS mags right out of the box.

It’s light. It’s comfortable. It’s modular. It’s good-looking.

Tikka .223 & Pulsar Thermion XQ50

The new Pulsar Thermion XQ50 will be used with the Tikka for coyote hunting at night. It features a new and advanced NETD <40mK sensor which produces more precise detail than ever before in a 384 resolution thermal optic. Even when thermal contrast is low, small temperature differences are clearly visible with richly contrasted, high-resolution imaging.  This new sensor, combined with a high-resolution AMOLED display, is a large improvement over the sensors in the previous Pulsar scopes with the XQ (384) sensor.  This new sensor allows the Thermion XQ50 to detect targets up to 2000 yards away and is much more sensitive to temperature changes.

The Thermion 2 XQ50 is IPX7 weatherproof and made for use all weather conditions, including blistering heat, bitter cold, rain, sleet or snow.  The onboard stadiametric rangefinder helps determine approximate target distances quickly and easily.  Capturing still images and video is seamless with the Thermion’s built-in video recorder. Up to 16GB of image and video content can be stored internally and can easily be transferred to a PC/laptop via wired connection or wirelessly to your smartphone or tablet with the iOS and Android compatible Stream Vision App.

In addition to user-favorite “white hot” and “black hot” imaging, Thermion scopes offer a robust array of color palettes for true colorized temperature mapping. Transitioning from color to default “white hot” during operation is also fast and easy. Thermion 2 XQ50’s include variable magnification of 3.5-14x, and features both 2x step-up and smooth, graduated magnification for a truly optimum, customized field of view.

The Thermion 2 series features a dual battery system to include one internal battery and one removable/expandable APS series battery, which is common with Axion Monocular series.  The removable battery is prioritized and when its power is depleted, the Thermion will automatically switch to internal power.  The removable APS battery can be removed and replaced without ever powering the scope down.  The Thermion 2 XQ50 includes one APS-2 battery in the standard kit.  A larger capacity version, called the APS-3, is also available and the Thermion includes the required extended battery cap to run these type of batteries.
