Leupold RX-1600i TBR Laser Rangefinder
Leupold RX-1600i TBR Laser Rangefinder $339
The Leupold RX-1600i TBR Laser Rangefinder is the rangefinder I decided to buy for my personal use for several reasons. First, even though it has a two-year warranty, Leupold quality reassures me it will last for many years. This unit replaces a Leupold RX1000 that I bought over 10 years ago and it is still going strong. I only replaced it because of all the added features of the RX1600i TBR.
I like the feel of the RX-1600 and the crystal clear image is better than the Vortex of comparable price. It has angle compensation for shooting from tree stands, bow and rifle modes, ballistic calculation for most rifle calibers, and shows arrow path clearance for a branch that might be in the arrow path of a shot.
For the areas I hunt, a range finder like the RX-1600 is more critical for bow hunting, but also very necessary for rifle hunting. One of my favorite places to deer hunt is along a power line right of way where we plant food plots. Shots range up to 600 yards in some places.
Making a shot past 225 yards is almost impossible without a good laser range finder. I have to know the distance in order to make long shots. Using the Leupold RX-1600 my hold over for shots longer than my zero range is displayed on the screen along with the range. I can dial the distance into my Leupold scope that has the CDS system, or if I am using a rifle scope without CDS, it tells me how high to hold.
If I range a large feral hog on my food plot and the reading is +6.6, I know I can hold at the top of his back and the shot will fall right into the boiler room. Would I take extremely long shots at a trophy buck? Probably not, but I will lob shots onto hogs and coyotes all day.
For me, a good range finder is a critical piece of hunting gear, and I want the best I can afford. That is why I chose the Leupold RX-1600 TBRW.

Navigating the Best Laser Rangefinders For Hunting Under $400:
Hunters seeking precision in their shots often turn to the best rangefinders as essential tools for accurate distance measurements and accurate ranges. Let’s explore the key features and performance factors to consider when choosing best hunting rangefinder for hunting under $400. We have included the most popular rangefinders for hunting but not the best overall golf rangefinder, some have 3000 yard accuracy. From angle compensation to advanced ballistic solutions, we delve into the world of rangefinders, ensuring you make an informed decision regardless of brand preferences.
Price Point and Maximum Range:
Price points follow the maximum range a rangefinder will provide accurate readings. If you want an accurate range finder for archery, it will cost less than one designed to range out past 2000 yards. When exploring laser rangefinders, finding the right balance between price and maximum range is crucial. A good rangefinder should offer a competitive price point without compromising on the maximum range it can cover accurately. Battery life is about the same on all laser range finders. We want you to find the most accurate rangefinder for the price point
Angle Compensation:
Angle compensation is a critical feature for hunters dealing with elevated or inclined terrains, especially for bow hunters. All rangefinders calculate horizontal component distance. Ensure your chosen rangefinder incorporates this technology to provide accurate horizontal distance readings and shot angle, especially when hunting from treestands or challenging landscapes regardless of arrow weight.
Scan Mode for Quick Readings:
The scan mode is a valuable feature that allows hunters to obtain continuous distance readings by simply holding down the button. This is particularly useful when tracking a moving target or surveying an area for potential shot opportunities.
Ballistic Solutions for Precision Shooting:
Advanced rangefinders offer ballistic solutions, factoring in variables like bullet drop and wind drift. These features are essential for long-range shooters, providing the necessary information to make accurate adjustments for precise shots. A good range finder gives you true horizontal distance for an accurate shot.
Magnification and Optical System:
A rangefinder’s optical system, coupled with a suitable magnification level, contributes to accurate target acquisition. Consider the rangefinder’s x magnification and the quality of its optical components for clear and detailed images. A large objective lens usually provides a better image.
Compact Size and Lightweight Design:
Hunters on the move require rangefinders that are compact and lightweight. These features enhance ease of use and portability, ensuring the rangefinder doesn’t become a burden during extended hunts.
Low Light Performance:
Hunting often involves low light conditions during dawn or dusk. Look for a rangefinder with improved low light performance with red or green LED, ensuring accurate distance readings even in challenging lighting situations.
Ease of Use and Customizable Settings:
A good rangefinder should be user-friendly, with intuitive controls and customizable settings. This allows hunters to tailor the rangefinder to their preferences and shooting scenarios.
Bluetooth Connectivity and Apps:
Some rangefinders offer Bluetooth connectivity and companion apps, adding a layer of convenience. These features may include data synchronization, weather information, and even ballistics solutions for enhanced performance. I think SIG SAUER is the leader in this arena.
Lifetime Warranty and Reliability:
Most range finder electronics are warranted for 2-5 years. Consider rangefinders that come with a lifetime warranty, indicating the manufacturer’s confidence in the product’s durability and reliability. A reliable rangefinder is an investment that should withstand the rigors of hunting over the years.
As you search the Best Laser Rangefinders For Hunting Under $400, the only down side to laser rangefinders is not having one. From angle compensation to ballistic solutions, a good rangefinder is a good idea and enhances your hunting experience, providing the precision and performance needed for successful shots in various scenarios.
Our list tries to provides you the best value of the rangefinders reviewed. We have not reviewed the bone collector, Leupold rx-fulldraw, razor hd, blue tees series, bluetooth – connect, target – arc, big buck, or easy set models as they were out of price range or not available. Most of these new model rangefinders settings can be meters or yards, and some, like the Leupold and Sig have onboard ballistics calculation.
The good news is that all of these rangefinders are better than last year and made for archery hunters or rifle hunters, and record proper distance reading for short or long range for mule deer or varmints or other game animals at no extra cost.
As technology continues to evolve, today’s rangefinders are equipped with advanced features to meet the diverse needs of hunters. Whether you’re an archery enthusiast, a rifle hunter, or a competitive shooter, the best laser rangefinders under $400 offer a perfect blend of accuracy, durability, and affordability.
